In life, opportunities do not simply come because we desire them; they come when we have built the capacity, experience, and character to handle greater responsibilities. The story of Prof. Ogbo perfectly captures this timeless truth: be prepared before you can expect opportunities.

His professional path reflects steady growth through dedication, competence, and service. He began with valuable experience as an administrative staff at the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), where he gained firsthand understanding of university systems, governance, and institutional structure. That early exposure laid a strong foundation for what was ahead.

He later transitioned into academics as an Assistant Lecturer in Anyigba, embracing the core responsibilities of teaching, mentoring, and research. This stage helped shape his scholarly discipline and commitment to developing future leaders.

As his expertise expanded, Prof. Ogbo rose to become Head of the Department of Political Science, a position that demanded leadership, coordination, and strategic management of academic programs. This role was another phase of preparation, sharpening his ability to manage people and resources effectively.

His administrative competence was further recognized when he served as Dean of Student Affairs, where he worked closely with students, addressing welfare, discipline, and development. This position deepened his understanding of leadership beyond the classroom—leadership that touches lives directly.

Prof. Ogbo also distinguished himself as Director of Consultancy, driving innovation, partnerships, and institutional development. His capacity to connect academic knowledge with practical solutions became even more evident.

In the digital age, he served as Director of ICT, a strategic role that positioned him at the center of technological advancement and modernization within the institution. This experience prepared him for the demands of 21st-century university administration.

One of the major highlights of his career was his appointment as Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, where he provided visionary leadership, strengthened academic standards, and contributed significantly to institutional growth. This role was a major preparation ground for higher responsibilities.

Today, his journey has reached another remarkable milestone with his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba. This is not an accident, nor merely luck it is the reward of years of preparation meeting the right opportunity.

Prof. Usman Ogbo’s story teaches us all that success is a process. Each step, each role, and each responsibility was preparing him for the next level. Truly, opportunity favors those who are ready.

In life, be prepared, because only preparation can position you to recognize and maximize opportunities when they come.
