Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman on Wednesday officially assumed office as the new Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, following a formal handover ceremony marked by enthusiasm from staff and students.
He succeeded Professor Marietu Tenuche Ohunene who bowed out after a tenure widely acknowledged for stabilizing and advancing the institution academically and structurally.
In her valedictory remarks, Prof. Tenuche said her administration laid a solid foundation for sustained growth, citing improved infrastructure and the successful securing of full accreditation for all academic programmes.
She expressed confidence in her successor’s capacity to sustain and surpass the gains recorded, describing Prof. Usman as an accomplished administrator with a proven leadership record.
The outgoing vice-chancellor warmly welcomed him to the helm, noting that his experience and vision positioned him well to guide the university through its next phase of development.
In his acceptance remarks, Prof. Usman thanked Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for entrusting him with the leadership of the institution.
He also acknowledged former Governor Yahaya Bello for what he described as consistent support and mentorship that contributed to his professional growth.
The new vice-chancellor praised Prof. Tenuche, calling her a “force to be reckoned with” in both administration and academia, and commended her for the stability and progress achieved under her watch.
He pledged to consolidate on her achievements, strengthen institutional standards, and drive further reforms aimed at elevating the university’s academic standing nationally and globally.
The ceremony signaled a leadership transition widely viewed by stakeholders as a continuation of reform-driven administration and a renewed commitment to excellence at PAAU.
