The immediate past Governor of Kano State and now a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso has disclosed that late Prince Abubakar Audu won the 2015 Governorship election, but God in his mercy decided that he will not come back to continue from where he stopped in Kogi State.
Senator Kwakawanso who made the disclosure at the first annual lecture of the late political icon, commemorating one year anniversary of his demise from mother earth called for the sustainability of his development legacies in the State.
The event which was attended by prominent dignitaries from different works of life according to the serving Senator is a lesson to Nigerians, pointing that the late two time governor gained the maximum support during his electioneering campaign but is no more to fulfill all the promises he gave his people prior to the State Governorship election.
While eulogizing late Audu for his remarkable achievement between 1992 and 2003, he noted that late Prince Abubakah Audu name will forever be written in gold not only in Kogi State, adding that a bridge was named in his honour in Kano State.
He added that if late Abubakar Audu were to be alive as governor, Kogi State would have been wearing a new look, he charge leaders in the State to immortalize him for all his achievement in education, health, youth empowerment and housing.
“When I and my friend, Prince Abubakar were governors, including other State governors, we won trophies for our outstanding performance in government but he “Audu” had the highest among us all. As a mark of respect, I used to seek advice from him, because of his intellectual and visionary attribute to making things work, he has that charisma of changing the fortunes of things for the development of his people”, Kwakwanso averred.
Also speaking, the son of the late political icon, Prince Mohammed Audu described his father as a man for all season who died to liberate his people from poverty, malnutrition, health decay as well as infrastructural and under development.
Prince Mohammed Audu maintained that his father laid a strong foundation for the State to strive politically, economically and educationally, adding that, during his tenure as governor, he established the Kogi State University, Anyigba, the first television station (NTA) Dangote cement factory, Obajana, Radio Kogi, Graphic Newspaper and was also involved in youth empowerment to rid the State from crime.
On the new foundation initiated by him to continue with his fathers’ legacies which he titled, Prince Abubakar Audu foundation, the young Prince Audu promised that the foundation will be championed on empowering youths , women, old, young, poverty alleviation, scholarships and improve health services which will cut across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
It will be recalled that late Prince Abubakar Audu who was born in 1947 died November 22, 2015 shortly before INEC declared the governorship election in Kogi State inconclusive.
