The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has described late Prince Audu Abubakar as a visionary leader whose footprints cannot be erase in the state being the first and second Executive Governor of the state, stressing that is love for his people knows no boundaries.
The Governor disclosed this at the 2nd year remembrance lectures organised in his honour and held at the Sheu Yar’Adua centre in Abuja yesterday.
The Governor who was represented by the Honourable Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Matthew Kolawole said late Audu Abubakar is a man of courage that is determined to emancipate his people, no wonder he enjoyed support of the grassroots till he died.
He said the Governor was unavoidable absent hence he sent a powerful delegations of himself, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Abubakar Ohere, and Hon Yusuf Haruna, Special Adviser, Legislative to commiserates with the family, friends and well wishers that the state really miss him.
He said the Government of Kogi State has resolved to continue to follow the foot steps of the developmental strides of the late leader.
Kolawole said as parts of effort to immortalise the legacy of the late leader, there is a bill for law to reestablish the Kogi State University, Ayingba at the Kogi state House of Assembly to rename the institution after his name.
He said since death is inevitable hence we were born one day and we would surely die when the time come, stressing that the family should continue to uphold his legacies of hard work, vision and determination to emancipate the people from poverty.
He described late Prince Audu as a father, mentor and leader through who he first traveled out of Nigeria, noting that he was the first Governor he shook hands with and the man that made him to touch million of naira.
Kolawole said Prince Audu Abubakar was parts of the people God use for his life, stating that he first met him 1992, as a young man playing the game of tennis and he approved a national competition which he sponsor.
He said the programme which actually launched him into limelight, describing him as a man of fashion and repute.
