Primary election in party system is a channel to select from many aspirants a representative to contest in a poll as the party flag bearer. From the onset of democracy in Nigeria party primaries has no doubt contributed negatively to the life of the masses as incredible candidates always emerge victorious.
Candidate’s victory in primaries depends on the size of money in their bank account and their god-father’s influence and not by their competence or political achievements. This with no doubt has left the masses with no choice than voting for the wrong candidates presented.
I want to use this medium to urge all parties leaders and executives to take the helpless masses interest in before fielding in candidates for polls. Party Delegates become rich or richer during primaries as they are easily or forcefully pushed to vote a candidate without refusing.
The future is our concern. Let’s make our Democracy a good one to write about. Let’s make politics worthy of engagement. Let’s make our country great by fielding in good leaders.
