Having allegedly fulfilled all conditions stipulated by the electoral act, Muhammadu Buhari was declared winner and subsequently sworn in as president and commander-in-chief of the Nigerian armed forces. At inauguration, the Daura born politician had perhaps, the easiest job in human history, all he had to do was outshine the man his party called the “worst president in the nation’s history”. Giving the amount of goodwill Buhari enjoyed and the luxury that comes with being president of Africa’s most populous nation, no one thought it’ll only take 12 months for Buhari to squander everything and outshine Goodluck Jonathan in the worst way possible; becoming the most hated president in Nigeria’s history. After just a quarter of his expected time in office, president Buhari has managed to turn around the fortunes of our country for the worse, made a fool of himself on countless occasions and proved times over there are many ways to be worse than being called an “ineffectual buffoon”.

The economy is in free fall, the naira battered so much, the Zimbabwean dollar is green with envy, it’s a shame how far down the drain the country’s been washed and there’s no telling the amount of damage the man can and will do before the end of his unfortunate presidency. Worst part of the story, he’s not alone on the mission, the devil hardly fly solo. He came with a barrage of mini demons; they’re in the senate, House of Representatives, governors, state assembly members, etc. It’s almost like the gates of hell was unlocked and the most wretched of them all were unleashed on us. Blood thirsty workers of iniquity, do no good wolf in sheep clothing. Before the election, they dressed up as angels, cris-crossing the country, cajoling innocent citizens with sweet talks and promises. Those of us who knew better tried to stop them but were shouted down, 15 million Nigerians succeeded in plunging Nigeria into an abyss we may not recover from anytime soon.

As if we don’t have enough to deal with already, there are some amongst us who still think Buhari is the best thing to happen to Nigeria since jollof rice. Most of them do it because they’re getting paid of course, the twitter warlords and evil columnists. They are fast running out of excuses and contradict themselves often, but, man must whack. Then there are those on the street who haven’t repented, they can’t won’t even look how much they have emaciated since May 29th last year and let that instil common sense. They go around repeating one-liners from the liar-in-chief who masquerade as information minister. I met one of them recently, a cab driver, after running two red lights with the excuse “fuel is too expensive and too scarce for him to wait for red light to turn green”. He only had to wait only 60 seconds! As I tried to catch my breath after almost colliding with another vehicle at the second stop, he turned to me and said “oga, you know see say Buhari dey try?” I tried to smile thinking he was being sarcastic but it turned out he wasn’t. He continued “if no be say Jonathan spoil things too much we for don go”. I almost began to think he was Lai Mohammed’s first son but for his coloured teeth and tattered shirt. Chronic abobaku.  Jonathan sure ruined things, the jets Buhari has been touring the world with being one of them.

Going forward, we can only pray, that is what a Nigerian do; ruin things and then hope God comes to clean it up after you. 2019 can’t come quicker, the chance to rescue our land from the claws of evil better come quick before tomatoes cost more than a barrel of oil. Things are bad enough as it is after only a year under this heartless administration. It couldn’t be worse when the only opposition and voice that should’ve been for ordinary people are themselves in disarray, not all their faults though, they are all corrupt in the eyes of emperor Buhari while the devil is in charge of transport ministry. I hope, for the sake of the single mother whose salary hasn’t been paid since last year, the orphan whose teachers are on strike and mostly for the blind-in-spirit like my taxi driver friend that the next three(3) years be better than what we’re seeing.

Make no mistakes about it, there is nothing Buhari will do, going forward that can win him back the amount of goodwill he’s lost. He is also his greatest enemy, stubborn and arrogant to a fault and his greatest strength is ignorance.

God bless Nigeria
