The Kogi State Government has charged Members of the Technical Committees set up to assess damages done to properties and farmlands by the recent flood to carry out their assignment with utmost sincerity and sacrifice.
The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, gave the charge today, on behalf of Capt. Idris Wada, the State Governor, while inaugurating the Committees for the nine affected Local Government Areas of the State.
Awoniyi, who is Chairman State Emergency Management Agency, enjoined the Committees to carry out detail assessment of the damages done by the flood and recommend appropriate assistance to be rendered to those affected.
He pointed out that the flood which ravaged the State, left many persons devastated, said government in its little way will after the assessment render the appropriate assistance to cushion the losses suffered by those affected.
The administration of Capt. Idris Wada, Awoniyi, pointed out is passionate in ensuring that the State comes to the aid of those considered affected, however warned that the task must be handled with seriousness, fairness and with good intention.
The exercise, the Deputy Governor, noted is to provide data that would form the objective template for assisting victims to cushion the effects and assist government to prevent and mange future occurrences as well as respond to enquiries of many interested bodies, agencies and individuals in providing support in specific areas.
The Committee, which has representatives of government, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute Architects, Builders, Nigerian Medical Association, Labour Congress, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Civil Societies, Government Officials, Data Processors, Photographers and Cameramen, were urged to demonstrate integrity in carrying out the assignment.
The activities of the Committee which begins today and last for five days include inspection of affected persons, places and properties.
They are also expected to assess damages done to fish farms, equipment and processing facilities.
In his speech earlier, Mr. Gabriel Abdul, who did a presentation on Data expected from the Committee, said the template to be used was given by the National Emergency Management Agency, urged those selected to be diligent in their assignment.
Speaking on behalf of the Committee Mallam Ali Atabor, thanked the State Government for finding them worthy to serve, and assured that they will strive to justify the confidence reposed in them.
