The Kogi State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of the former Director of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Isa Edime, who was also head of Ojikpada Egume village, in Dekina Local Government Area of the state.
Also murdered was the head of the vigilance group, Mohammed Wada.
Disclosing this to journalists in Government House, Lokoja, Governor Idris Wada described Edime’s murder as unfortunate and vowed that no stone would be left unturned to bring the perpetrators to book.
Wada, during an address to mark this year’s Democracy Day, called for a minute’s silence in honour of the former broadcaster, who on Tuesday night was dragged to the road where he was shot dead by his assailants.
According to Wada, “on the unfortunate loss of Chief Isa Edime, I just want to tell you that the Police have made several arrests and in due course will pick more suspects that will lead us to unravel the death.”
Sources close to the Police confided in Vanguard that those arrested included a prominent traditional ruler in the area and that they are already making useful statements to the Police.
The source, who wished to remain anonymous, said the suspects were arrested around 8am yesterday. “He (the traditional ruler) has been arrested. He was arrested in complicity with Edime’s murder.”
When contacted, state Commissioner of Police, Sa’idu Madawaki, declined to confirm the arrests, saying investigation is still ongoing.
“We have not finished our investigation. If we finish our investigation I will call you,” he said.
