The Kogi State police command has arrested a 26-year old man, Olaiya Ibeun for allegedly sending insulting text messages to the state deputy governor, Mr Yomi Awoniyi.
The suspect who was paraded before newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday was also accused of sending similar messages to the Chairman of Mopa-Muro Local government, Mr Folorunsho Daniyan and Hon. Eric Fiki, the special Adviser to the state governor on political affairs.
Briefing newsmen, the state commissioner of police, Mr Saidu Madawaki said that the suspect had been maligning and insulting his victims with intent to extort money from them.

Madawaki said that Ibeun was arrested with the help of a lady he had used her bank account extort money from one of the victims.
He said that the lady was arrested by policemen who had been stationed at one of the commercial banks in Lokoja.
“The lady was arrested by the police while attempting to collect the money for Ibeun the second time. The lady confessed to have been sent by the suspect who was later arrested in Kaduna,”. The Commissioner said.
Madawaki said that the police action followed a report lodged by Fiki who reported that an unknown person with a mobile phone number +224811331529 had been sending messages, asking him to send huge money into a bank account.
The police Commissioner said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
