I want to use this medium to inform Kogi state government on revenue on road tax diversions to private accounts by the state road tax force on revenue collection for immediate action.
Enroute to my residence at 200 housing units at about 11 am on Monday morning from the town, I came in contact with people who dressed with KGIRS attires and they stopped me in my private pick up van.
They said they stopped me for the payment of road tax and I told them, I am not using my vehicle for taxi.
The said since it is pick up, they have directives from revenue tax force to pay road tax.
I said ok, how much am I to pay? They said forty thousand (N 40,000) for state sticker and twenty -five thousand for local Government (N25,000).
I said which account should I pay the money to, as I had decided to give them an integrity test.
First, they said I can pay cash. I told them that by my training government revenue is not paid in cash. Then, they said they are working for a consultant on road tax collections.
I said they should show me the receipt for the tax collections, they showed me two receipts bearing kogi internal revenue service with one MoH. IBRA investment limited that, forty thousand naira for state sticker and twenty five thousand naira for local Government.
I said ok, they should give me the account number of either the state Government or the MOH. IBRA investment limited. They said instead they will give me their oga’s account number. I said ok they should give me so the gave me an account of one Mohammed Idris – account number: 2090669921 UBA plc.
I said this account has no bearing with either the Kogi State Government internal revenue service or MOH IBRA investment limited. In my presence, they called their oga that some one they held don’t want to pay cash to them that he said he will to pay to the bank.
Their oga said how much, they told him. I said they should give me the account, there was pos there, but no network service so we waited for about two hours no network.
Then I told one of them to follow me to zenith bank in my vehicle, I will withdraw the sixty five thousand from my account, then the person that followed me said I can give him they cash so that I can go but I said no, I want evidence of payment. So, we went to nearby point of sale (PoS) around zenith bank, I paid the sixty- five to Mohammed Idris account 2090669921 with UBA, then I asked the pos to print two of the receipts of payment to me, I gave the person that followed me one copy and I held one copy .
My integrity results showed Kogi state government revenue are been diverted to Mohammed Idris personal account number 2090669921 with UBA plc.
Recommendation
I want Kogi State Government to set up an investigative panel to conduct investigation into Mohammed Idris account number 2090669921 with UBA plc to know the extent of revenue diversion to that account immediately.
