Kogi Patriots Awards, the flagship of the annual Kogi State Patriots invitational event has called for nominations for honours in the year’s event.
Speaking with our reporter in Abuja on Thursday, one of the organizers, Comrade Leo said the award will be presented to recipients at its peace summit later this year.
He explained that the awards, championed by Kogites Unite for Change Initiative, recognizes the men and women who, through their actions and words similar to the group’s great vision to achieve the most anticipated long lasting peace in Kogi state, promote and carry out outstanding leadership skills during their lifetime.
“Their inspirational influence to promote peace in Kogi state was live through the next generation of courageous heroes and leads us to a Kogi state where we are not judged based on our tribe, neither our religion, but by the content of our character as peace loving people.
“The recipients of the Patriots Award are chosen each year and the newest honorees will be recognized at the annual Patriot Invitational event. Eligible nominees must have a recognizable history of excellence throughout their careers and demonstrate exemplary service to the community, specifically the continued advocacy for peaceful co-existence amongst Kogites.
Kogites Patriots Awards under Kogites United for Change Initiative is proud to honor and present this award to the selected nominee of the year as another way to thank him/her for their various achievements made throughout their lives and their involvement and passion for aiding the voices echoing for peaceful co-existence amongst Kogi state Indigenous people,” he said.
Comrade Leo added that there are 18 categories of award this year.
“We have eighteen award categories: Patriot of The Year (Male), Patriot of The Year (Female), Young Patriot of the Year (Male), Young Patriot of The Year (Female), Most Outstanding Male Peace Advocate of The Year, Most Outstanding Female Peace Advocate of The Year, Most Outstanding Youth in Peace Advocacy (Male), Most Outstanding Youth in Peace Advocacy (Female), Philanthropist of The Year (Male), Philanthropist Of The Year (Female), Peace Culture Champion Of The Year (Male), Peace Culture Champion Of The Year (Female), Most Outstanding Commitment To Peace Advocacy
Of The Year and Most Inspiring Social Work Of The Year.
“Other categories are: Peace Icon Of The Year (Female), Most Outstanding Social Impact Award, Peace Educationist Of The Year, Lifetime Achievement Award.”
He urged Kogites to nominate change makers in Kogi state who deserve recognition for their remarkable efforts toward promoting peace and social development across Kogi state.
Explaining the need for a peace summit, Comrade Leo said in the face of new threats, the notion of peace in Kogi state is rapidly gaining attention.
“Suddenly, new threats to peace in Kogi state looks very different from the past. The silent peace antagonist can live undetected. They do not always carry explosives or guns. At times they remain invisible, yet the consequences of their actions can leave a lasting and devastating impact.
“Today’s youth are exposed to and concerned about threats to peace facing our state today. New risks bring about new challenges and yet even in the most challenging of times, there is hope that revolutionary solutions can emerge,” he explained.
