Following the violence that erupted during the re-run of the state assembly elections for Dekina local government of Kogi State, where a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ayingba ward, Ibrahim Yakubu Oyibo, was killed, a group has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the election.
The PDP Anyigba Ward youth leader Attache Usman said the election should be cancelled as a result of the incident. Oyibo was reportedly returning from a stakeholdersโ meeting which held a day before the re-run election when he was shot dead by political thugs.
The 8th day fidau prayer for the deceased PDP member was held in the family compound in Agudoko Ayingba with PDP members in attendance.
The re-run election had been ordered by INEC following a free for all fight between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP supporters who claimed the ballot papers and election materials made available then by INEC were fake.
