Reason why the reconciliation meeting between the Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada and Jibrin Isah Echocho, was suspended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, who is also leading the team has been revealed.
The suspension, according to findings, was at the instance of Jibrin Isah Echocho, who is at the centre of the whole matter, reportedly said that the Supreme Court should be allowed to determine the case.
It was further revealed that the major motive behind the meeting of the Chief Tony Anenih-led team was to persuade Echocho to withdraw his suit challenging the election of Idris Wada, but it was suspended based on the plea of Echocho that his case awaits determination by the Supreme Court.
A state party leader, who pleaded for anonymity, stated that the fact that Echocho had maintained his optimism in the judiciary even in these most trying circumstances should gladden the hearts of the Kogi people.
According to the source, “It is rare to see people behave like this, but Echocho is a fair minded politician. Indeed, he has given hope to his supporters. It is rare to witness such human motives and values, especially in Nigeria’s political atmosphere where politicians dump their supporters at the slightest offer to recover their campaign expenses.”
However, in separate statements, International Lawyers For Justice and Peace in Africa (ILJPA) and Kogi Justice and Freedom Forum, commended the stand of Echocho on the crisis.
