A frontline gubernatorial aspirant in the forthcoming Kogi state governorship election, Hon. Aliyu Akuh, has described the election of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election as a big relief for the citizenry from poor governance.
He added that the PDP primary election on Saturday in Portharcourt, Rivers state capital, was free, fair and credible. He noted that the transparent and credible primary elecction has given hope to Nigerians who have been traumatized by the harsh economic policies of the President Muhammadu Buhari led APC government.
Akuh, a former Deputy Speaker and a member representing Omala state constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, disclosed this yesterday in Lokoja while fielding questions from journalists on the outcome of the just concluded PDP presidential primaries.
He noted that the people will benefit immensely from the wealth of experience of the former number two man which he had garnered from public service, private sector and his eight years stint as the Vice President of this country.
The lawmaker, who is also a retired customs officer just like the former vice president, described Atiku as a man with large heart who will stop at nothing than to see that the welfare of the people around him were adequately taken care of.
He explained that the PDP has made the best choice by electing him at this period of general despair and disenchantment across the country, stressing that the election has given the people a choice to choose between poverty and prosperity.
Akuh, reliving his experience as an officer under the command of Atiku in the customs service, said he was a fine officer and a gentleman who was loved by all officers and men under his watch, adding that Nigeria and Nigerians would be better if Atiku is elected in the general election.
He added that the former Vice President, as the head of the economic team of the Obasanjo administration, through privatization brought the GSM revolution that has become the major achievement of all times.
He commended the delegates for their overwhelming votes for him saying if the vice president is elected in the forthcoming general election, he will fast-track human and natural transformation of the country.
According to him, “Atiku’s pedigree is intimidating. The ruling APC is already jittery over his candidature. They had wanted it to be another aspirant. The die is cast and at the end of the day the Nigeria people will rejoice.
“I urged Nigerians irrespective of their party affiliations or creed to vote enmass for him to deliver the country from misrule,” he solicited.
