We at the Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party National Youth Frontier have held on to the foregoing statement since it was brought to our notice that another unknown Nigerian trading in the business of blackmail and mischief with the names Obochi Samuel have embarked on another unprovoked attack on the person of amiable His Excellency Idris Ichalla Wada; executive governor of Kogi State. PDPNYF wishes to remind the character behind the name Hon. Obochi Samuel that an out right insult and continual attacking the Person of Governor Wada is not criticism against his government, and we therefore considering Obochi stand on Governor Wada health as personal issues rather than governance, while we welcome reasonable criticism from Kogites we must be able to separate insult from criticism, and freedom of expression as guarantee by Nigeria constitution and encouraged by this very government shouldn’t be abuse by Kogites more or less the like of Obochi Samuel that his credentials are not variable.
First, let me state first-hand that Gov Wada is not in town, talk less of being in confinement. I personally saw him leave the govt house this week for a fruitful trip.
However, if it will take a mentally ill man to make the kind of impact Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada have made within such a short time in Kogi State then we all must agree that signs of mental illness should be included as a condition for occupying political offices in Nigeria.
Like Nigeria’s Agriculture Minister Dr. Adewunmi Adeshina implied; noise may be loud but facts when disclosed are normally loudest, we shall only join issues with Obochi Samuel on the basis of facts, figures and dates. We hereby state thus and stand to be contradicted, challenged or corrected:
Obochi Samuel lied, saying that “It could be recalled that a chieftain of PDP Mr. Emmanuel Abalaka had told an Abuja High Court after Wada’s nomination in 2012 that he (Wada) has a record of mental disorderliness from University College Hospital Ibadan. He told the court that Wada was admitted into the psychiatric ward on the 7th April 1976 with card No. 399346 on referral from Dr. V.O. Anosike of Estate Clinic Group for Schizophrenic illness and Wada was subsequently diagnosed of acute psychotic episodes and paranoid psychosis on 7/4/76 by Dr. Oyewunmi of UCH.”
While it is unfortunately becoming a trend for faceless persons to attack the personality of distinguished statesmen like His Excellency Idris Ichalla Wada, we would like to remind Obochi Samuel and his gang that in 1972, His Excellency Idris Ichalla Wada after leaving the Federal Government College, Sokoto, joined the Nigeria Civil Aviation Training Centre Zaria and worked as a flight instructor from 1973 till 1978. He would later join the Nigeria Airways as a pilot and worked from 1978 till 1983. Between 1983 and 1985, he was on the staff of United Air Services as Chief Pilot and General Manager.
Obochi Samuel further lied with intent to subject the Nigerian judiciary to ridicule when he claimed that “his father Haleel Ejiga, against medical advice, discontinued Wada’s treatment at UCH facility and took him out on the 28th April 1976.”
For the records, Pa Wada served Nigeria meritoriously as a fearless and distinguished jurist for over 30 years before retiring. In the course of his service especially when he held sway as judge, the judiciary in Kogi State was noted for its firmness, fairness and non-partisanship; all these because of the enormous influence of Pa Wada. How then can a man this just embark on an act as this as claimed by Obochi Samuel?
That His Excellency Idris Ichalla Wada is a man with an intimidating professional profile is no longer news in the global business world. That we have not gone on to outline his credentials and achievements is a deliberate inaction on our part as we reckon that there is a limit to which mediocrity can be magnified.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, Obochi Samuel must understand that freedom of speech and expression leveraging on the social media does not translate to license to be cruelly mischievous as it remains to be proven by him and his owners how in 1976 a “mentally ill” man can from his psychiatric ward in the University College Hospital, Ibadan be a flight instructor in the high profile Nigeria Civil Aviation Training Centre Zaria within the same period.
Obochi Samuel must be firmly reminded that the friendly disposition of the government of Kogi State under His Excellency Idris Ichalla Wada towards the opposition must not be mistaken as the inability of the government to instill discipline into erring members of the public. This is because it is yet to be figured out how a “mentally ill” man that was forcefully discharged from psychiatric ward in the University College Hospital, Ibadan in 1976 can be certified fit to fly an aircraft in the Nigeria Airways just two years later as a pilot and seven years later as Chief Pilot and General Manager of United Air Services.
We however advise that Obochi Samuel does his laid back mind a favor of confirming that His Excellency Idris Ichalla Wada is currently enjoying the best of health as can be deduced by all and sundry in Kogi State and Nigeria. This he can do by clearing his mind of all form of animosity and hatred towards a productive government and deciding to be a more responsible citizen of Kogi State.
