Parents Urged to Allow Children Choose Career

Parents have been asked to put interest in the career their children will want to pursue in life without necessarily influencing it, as most times career are chosen by parents for their children, thus putting their wards in profession they don’t have interest in.

Dr. Mrs Ojiah Ahioaza of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja made the remarks at this years career day of Anchor International School,  Lokoja, said most noticed deficiency displayed by some professionals is occassioned by wrong choice made for them by their parents.
Dr Ahoiza  blamed parents who impose career on their wards, disclosing that it most times has a boomeranging effect on the children.
Dr Ahioza described choice of career as pivotal to how a child can go in life, says once a wrong step is taken, the child aside showing interest in the profession, ends up with poor performance and have dislike for the profession, in some cases may not even complete the course eventually.
Dr Ahoiza commended some pupils of Anchor International School, for wanting to study medicine and Nursing as a profession, described it as exciting and tasking, but said since it deals with saving lives, it is worth the rigor.
Dr Ahoiza charged the pupils on hardwork and discipline noting that unlike other courses, medical sciences requires absolute commitment and dedication of those desiring to study it as a profession.
Earlier in a remarks, Mathias Helen, the proprietress of Anchor International Schools,  said the career day helps pupils to make inform decision and equally help them to succeed.
She described guardian and counseling as the tool for equipping the pupils with the needed skills, interest to be able to make informed choices on their lifetime career.
She noted that the pupils are been taught to make decision in the area of teaching, engineering, accounting, the army, nurses, banking and doctors, said choosing the right career, helps the individual and nation put to use the knowledge acquired.
