PAAU’s Peter Ogohi Salifu Wins Prestigious SONTA-Olu Obafemi Prize for Playwriting

Peter Ogohi Salifu, an alumnus of Prince Abubakar Audu University’s Theatre Arts Department and a member of Staff of the University has been awarded the prestigious SONTA-Olu Obafemi Prize for Playwriting (2024). The award which was conferred at the 37th International Conference of the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists, held at the Federal University Lokoja, is named after renowned playwright Professor Olu Obafemi and celebrates exceptional talent and creativity in playwriting.

While announcing the winner, the President of SONTA, Professor Gowon Doki noted that Mr. Salifu’s play, titled Sons of an Ancestor emerged victorious in a competitive contest among 9 outstanding entries for the competition.

Speaking on the achievement, Mr. Salifu expressed deep gratitude to the University for the support provided throughout his academic and creative journey. He hailed the University for the strong foundation he received as a student of the University, particularly in the Department of Theatre Arts, from which he graduated.

Peter Ogohi Salifu is an emerging playwright, theatre director, and critic. He is an applied theatre researcher, and a versatile theatre, media, and performance practitioner.
