The leaders of Okun Youth Development Association (OYDA) has called on the state government to reconstruct Fehinti-oluwa community’s bridge at Kabba, Kabba-Bunu local government areas of Kogi state.

The call arose after a national delegation of OYDA visited the area to assess the condition of the bridge constructed more than a decade ago.

President-General of Okun youths, Comrade Oguns Tosin Gbenga said the bridge, links inhabitants of the community with some major communities within Kabba town.

“It is the easiest route also for some communities within Kabba town including: Aiyeteju, Oke-Padi, Kajola, Asuta, Odo-Akete, Odo-Aofin, Kano Road, Odi-Olowo, GRA and the Ikowa-Opa communities to connect Fehinti-oluwa community.

“Although the bridge has been under dilapidating state over the years, but the condition as not worsen to the extent it is now.

“During the administration of Gov. Yahaya Bello there was rumours around that he had released funds to a particular political leader from Okunland who grossly embezzled it. The veracity of the rumours as not been publicly clarified and proved so far by Kogi state government.

“The Fehinti-Oluwa community bridge is the only medium through which hundreds of people from Fehinti-oluwa, Odolu communities can access other parts of Kabba communities. Likewise some commuter vehicles journeying to Akure, Ibadan, Lagos prefer to ply Fehinti-oluwa’s road to save time. The only exception is when Fehinti-oluwa’s dwellers are going to Odolu or plying Odolu route to connect Obaro way, one of the federal roads in the community.

“Actually people from Fehinti-oluwa community can be plying Odolu road connecting Obaro way, as alternative motorable paths to Korede Market and other communities within the town. The critical but in this case, is that it will cause traffic congestions on the Obaro way, and its products can includes: accident, delay, pollution for mentioning,” he explained.

Comrade called on Governor Usman Ododo to fast track rescuing of the dwellers of Fehinti-oluwa community by enhancement prompt response to reconstruct the bridge.

Also speaking on the urgency of the matter, the Chairman Board of Trustees of OYDA, Comrade Eyiolorunpe Abidemi appealed to the Obaro of Kabba, HRM, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, President Kabba Development Union, Engr. Ajibero Emmanuel and the Caretaker Chairman Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Barr. Zaccheaus Dare Michael, to ensure state government’s timely intervention.
