Mr Jiang Hun, Deputy GM of CGC NIG LTD, the Chinese Contractors that built the Greater Lokoja Water Works said the Chinese lantern festival, the second most recognised Chinese festival celebrated all over the world, was not held last year, led to the flood disaster that ravaged the country especially Kogi state.
Jiang made this statement at this year’s annual world Chinese lantern festival, used to mark the Chinese lunar year and to appease the gods against natural disasters, organised by CGC NIG LTD.
He assured that against predictions,with the celebration of the Chinese Lantern festival this year, the floods will not wreck havoc neither would there be other natural occurrences.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada has called on Chinese investors doing business in Kogi State to lower their bill of quantity in order to continue to enjoy patronage from the State Government.
While noting that the State Government is ready to partner with reputable Chinese Companies in view of their record of performance, Capt Wada however called on them to lower their prices to enable government sustain its patronage.
Represented by the state Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, the Governor commended the age long tradition of the Chinese people which is still been celebrated 3000 years after with its attendant positive result.
The Governor rejoiced with the Government and people of the Chinese Republic on the celebration, said they have been able to carve a niche for themselves in virtually all sectors of the state economy.
Earlier in her speech, Hajia Adiza Onotu, Commissioner for Water Resources, lauded the importance of the festival, adding that it has to do with appeasing the gods to avert calamities such as flood that almost ravaged the state last year.
