- Pledge to rehabilitate released inmates.
Osaseyi Foundation has secured release of five inmates in the Medium Federal Correctional Centre, Kogi State, who could not meet up with their release terms.
Chairman of the foundation, Richard Osaseyi, assured that the former inmates will be rehabilitated, empowered and re-integrated back into the society.
Osaseyi gave the assurance when the foundation visited the custodial centre in Kabba recently.
He paid the fines of five inmates who showed remorse after review by the foundation’s legal team. The legal team was able to clear them of their minimal offences, and also secured immediate release of three inmates, while the two others interviewed are set to be released at a later date.
Osaseyi, who was represented by the foundation’s Project Manager, Hon. Amodu Abubakar, urged the released inmates to give their lives meaning by acquiring skills that will help stabilize them in the society.
He admonished them to turn a new leaf and distance themselves from criminal activities capable of bringing them back to detention.
He revealed that plans are in by the Foundation to setup channels for vocational and skills acquisition, start-up grants for business ideas, and education trust funds to help released inmates get properly integrated back into the society.
The Officer In-Charge of the Correctional Centre, Mr. Ishaku, explained that inmates who could not meet up with their release terms ended up spending longer time in detention, as no help would come before now.
He lauded the efforts of Mr Richard Osaseyi, through his Foundation, for making a difference in the lives of the underprivileged.
He counseled the newly released inmates to be of good behaviour, uphold the integrity of Osaseyi Foundation and also make their families proud.
He to commend the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello for making life in prison conducive for inmates by providing them with basic amenities as they do their time in detention.
He charged the released inmates to take caution as the Governor Yahaya Bello administration have zero tolerance to crime and perpetrators of criminal acts, to avoid them returning back to their shackles.
One of the inmates, Danlami Musa Daniel said he had given up hope of regaining his freedom because of the huge fine and the inability of his family to raise money.
Danlami said he had resigned himself to serving his full sentence until when fate smiled at him and he regained freedom due to Osaseyi Foundation’s intervention.
The other two inmates, Opeyemi Lasisi and Destiny Matthew also thanked the foundation and promised to be of good behaviour henceforth.
Osaseyi Foundation gifted the newly released inmates cash to buy new clothes and transport themselves back to their families.
