The King of Kogi is well known for moving around in a long convoy of horses with 21st century aesthetics. His convoy of horses is second to none among Kings in Nigeria. About a year ago, he began a culture of raining fresh mint Naira notes on his subjects. One of the first beneficiaries of his largess was an old mad woman in the city where his palace is located. The mad woman was ’embarrassed’ with N250,000 in N500 denomination. After this, the great King started raining N500 notes on his subjects who are lucky to stand by the road when his horses pass by.
Anytime his showers of Naira notes falls, subjects scamper to pick as many as they can, some getting injured in the process. While some subjects hail this action, majority condemn it totally for being inhuman. The critics of the King wondered why he does this while subjects are wallowing in poverty occasioned by his refusal to pay wages for labourers who work day and night in his farmlands despite collecting huge royalties.
However, the unexpected happened last week Thursday when the King was returning to his head city. The Kogi started his usual practice but fell off his fast running horse rolling on the floor.
So bad was the fall that the King got seriously injured as the fast racing horse dragged him on the floor for several minutes before stopping. To make matters worse, the great fall happened in the market square.
The King had since been packaged to oyinbo land for intensive care and serious treatment.
The gods anger might have been delayed but the horses are surely angry. The great fall in the market square is still being discussed in hush tones. The King court jesters are warned not to disclose what happened, the subjects are still in awe.
