In democracy zoning is not bad, it only becomes bad when it is used to install bad and arrogant political leadership and when this happen, the governed are always at the suffering end. Since democracy is a system of government in which the majority rules and always have their ways, it is also morally encouraging that the minority have their own says too.
Rotation and zoning of political leadership in a democracy is meant to strike a balance so that both the majority and minority groups can access power. The joy of politically-marginalised sets of people is usually short-lived when they are being favoured with a zoning arrangement that does not guarantee their freedom of choosing candidate of their choice that matches the popular will of the people.
His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello have distinguished himself and proven to be a leader who listens to the yearnings of his people. He is very much aware of the agitation of the good people of Okehi Local Government Area to be offered the opportunity of producing the next Senator for Kogi-central and he has yielded to that request. However, this is not enough, it is imperative for his Excellency to call for an all-inclusive stakeholders meeting from the zone, share this idea with them and possibly come up with a decision as to who gets the slot after Okehi Local Government Area.
Your Excellency sir, you were subjected to rigorous party primaries in 2015 when you aspire to rule Kogi State under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC). Neither the coalition of Ebira and Okun for Governor nor the then leaders of the party in Kogi-central endorsed you as their sole candidate for the primaries but your efforts and political permutations earned you the status of first runner-up in the primaries in which the late Prince Abubakar Audu emerged as winner. It is the results of your struggle and the divine intervention of God Almighty that eventually throw you up as the Governor of Kogi State today.
Your Excellency sir, you have taken the right decision cherished in most quarters of Kogi-central by favouring the people of Okehi Local Government Area to produce the next Senator for the zone. Allowing a level playing ground for the Senatorial aspirants from the zone where a particular aspirant may not be unnecessarily favoured against the other, and given the people of the area and other LAGs in Kogi-central to choose whom they deem fit and best for them would write your name in the political wall of Ebiraland as the champion of democracy and justice.
I’m therefore appealing to you your Excellency sir, to consider all the aspirants from Okehi Local Government Area as your own whom you cannot afford to treat unfairly. Let each an every one of them go out and meet the delegates out there like you were being subjected to in 2015 and tell the delegates what they have done in the time-past, what they are doing currently and what they seek to do when given the mandate to represent them at the red chamber of the National Assembly.
– Kabiru Usman, a stakeholder in All Progressives Congress,  wrote from Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
