Jesus said “All authority has been given Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples…” – Matthew 28:18,19
Authority is given for disciples to better the society and to get things done effectively and for the purpose of accumulating wealth, pleasure and abuse of power.
I remember vividly while growing up in Ajaokuta, I and my father went hunting in company of my elder brother. When we encounter animals like snake (cobra or Python) my father takes charge. What I do was to run away and watch my dad and the snake. I began to learn the skills and tactics.
“There is a tactics to every battle, you got to learn the skills.”
I am not talking of small snakes here (big snake that could swallow two others, some measuring about 12fts). My father would go after the snake and do justice to it. One day he called me, not knowing that he has sighted a very big snake in a whole and he ordered me and my brother to dig the whole. My elder brother never like hunting but trust me, it is another unconventional institution I obtained a degree from. (Smile)
We finally discover it was snake and we decided to run away but my father get hold of me and said. “I am teaching you a lesson as a man. Don’t run away from responsibility. Snake is running you are running who will is going to kill the snake? “Go” after the snake now and cut it head for me.” he instructed. “Haven’t I trained you how to kill snakes and other animal? time to take charge is now” he added. (Authority transfered).
No wonder Anne Bradstreet vehemently said, “Authority without wisdom is like a heavy axe without an edge, fitter to bruise than polish.”
My father equipped me with skills, wisdom, and authorized me with power to defeat my fears and kill the snake. I acted on his instructions, collected his sword, “go” after the python and killed it. From then till today snakes know me when I hit the forest and they don’t wait.
Ladies and gentlemen, the word “Go” is a delegating word. It delegates authority to the one sent. Now greater than my biological father is saying “go”
So when Jesus told us to go He in effect delegated His authority to us. ‘Go’ is a powerful word indeed. In the go” is the authority and power to do what you were sent to do.
Those in political office have a clue what Authority is. The moment you contested for a position and win the election and you are sworn into the office, what they simply mean is, go and exercise your delegated (Constitutional) authority but don’t abuse it.
Delegated authority is always in the context of an assignment. Delegated authority is for a ‘to-do’. If you are not going to do anything then you don’t need authority.
If all you could with authority is to acquire properties at the expense of the masses, then you don’t need authority. If you are going to corner the 150m the state allocated for hospital Equipment you don’t need authority. If we have responsible government in this country someday people will have to visit kirikiri after their service as Aides. (Don’t ask me who and if you do, I will mention names).
Wherever there is abuse of authority, there is a man who resists it.”
Authority is for disciplining the people. Authority is for development. Authority is for reconciliation; Reconciling men to God and Men to Men.
The office of the citizens is more powerful than elected office. But we (citizens) know it not… We loose our voice for peanut, We trade our authority for gold and silver, We became followers of authority abuser across the Nation.
We lost our divine right and constitutional right for greed and hunger.
Instead of speaking the truth to authority with the power conferred on us by divinity and the Constitution of FRN, we shy away from it rather label the few speaking without fear of intimidation.
We must also know that there is a connection between authority and responsibility. If you are not willing to be responsible for something then you don’t need authority. Irresponsible people abuse authority and render it useless in the eyes of the people. They perverse authority and trample on it. Instead of killing the giant snake (corruption) tormenting the society they shy away and allow the torments to continue unabated.
It time we watch who we give authority in our society, churches, mosques, peer groups, social groups etc. If indeed they desire the power they should also be ready to take full responsibility instead of given excuses.
If you would have authority then you must be willing to be responsible for the assignment. You must be willing to take responsibility of your action when there is demand.
The more responsible you are to what’s expected of you, the more authority you will be given. Authority that is not put to use will be phase out in a space of time.
“Your authority is for your assignment. Not for show”
It for good governance not for facebooking.
Its for the development and the equipping the people not to oppress them.
It is important you know that your authority is connected to your assignment, it is then vital you understand your assignment. If your assignment on earth does not lies in politics why seeking political office? Why romancing every devils for appointment? I understood the philosophy of “if you can’t beat them join” No, that is not politically, religiously, traditionally and morally incorrect,… I say to you *if you can’t beat them stand out, for it is not a sign of weakness rather wisdom and power.* we are to recall contact without contaminations because of He that is in us… Don’t fall for everything.
We have given so many people authority without them knowing their assignment as public servant, aides and appointees.
Our nation suffer this much because of the Authority abusers who smuggle themselves in public office without understanding the purpose and their assignment.
Whenever you function outside your assignment you are functioning outside your authority and you tend to abuse authority.
Find and define your assignment and you have just found and defined your authority. As much as we each have specific assignments, we also together have a corporate assignment.
Jesus said go into all the world. This is the great commission. Even if you do not yet know your specific assignment, we must all run with the great commission as a people so that among us can emerge the next president, governor, senator who will not corner the destiny of the nation for their selfish ambitions, Rep who will represent us in truth and indeed, chairman who is hunger and thirsty for good governance instead of re-engaging and remarrying. Counselors who truly know how to counsel and minister to his wards.
The great commission (assignment) is to make disciples who will be disciple makers themselves. Our authority functions best when we are on assignment. Our job is not done till a disciple maker is formed across the Nation and states. New Nigeria is possible not with wrong people in authority but we are getting closer…
I can no longer be satisfied with just speaking to you on Facebook, until we are also make disciples I have not completed my assignment. *I found my purpose, I know my assignment and authority have been given unto me but am not done yet until I lead by example*
Jesus said “follow me and I will make you fishers of men”.
Today our churches parade fisher of money and property who does not know their assignment yet claim to be men of God.
Authority Abuser must be rooted out of churches for the church to get her voice back.
Go Find Your Assignment And Wait For Instructions, stop romancing every devil for a token that cannot sustain you.
