Some young able bodied persons invade public offices and agencies on daily basis seeking for pecuniary tips, douceurs and gratifications from public office holders. Some of the youth who engage in such practices, are believed to be persons who were hired and used as youth vanguards and canon fodders by politicians during electioneering campaigns but have not been given any appointments after a new government was formed.
Most of them easily turn to form such groups as corporate beggars and even form groups with names known to government and government officials.
The trend became visible and vocal in the present administration in Kogi State where quite a number of such groups sprang up and got pseudo recognition from the government.
They operated in groups and batches. Their operations rival each other as they always attempt to outsmart one another. They have not gone underground but rather become more sophisticated, emboldened and daring in the present administration.
They have only changed names and colours but their styles, modus oparandi and shameless character are as ever before or even greater. Most of them are known to government functionaries particularly the political class whom they sing praises of at gatherings. Many a politician love them. They curry the presence of such mediocres and social miscreants.
Such young persons are nothing but thugs armed with the power of oration, reprobate disposition and mindset. They are persons who soon after each gatherings, quicken to meet their political benefactors to receive payments for the ‘services’ they had rendered earlier.
Truly, it is sickening to see how tens of hundreds of able bodied persons including women without virtues shamelessly assume the status of corporate beggars, praise singers and clowns to make ends meet where there are ample opportunities to be gainfully employed or be self empowered.
Our generation is growing into a culture of indolence, unproductive cult of young, money conscious but lazy lots .
I pray I don’t hurt some persons who enjoy and pay for the services of the puppets in Kogi state.
