Adams Ahmed attended Primary and Secondary schools in Okene’s RCM South primary school and Ihima Community Secondary School, Ihima in Okehi LGA respectively. He had his HSC at the School of Basics Studies Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin between 1981-83. He obtained Bachelor of Arts History at the Bayero University Kano in 1987 with Micheal Crowther Prize for the best graduating student; his MA and PhD were in political economy and economic history respectively in 1991 and 1997.
Professor Adams Ahmed started his working career as a journalist and joined academics in 1992 as Assistant Lecturer at the Nigerian Defense Academy, Africa’s top military University, where he rose through the ranks to become a professor of History in 2009.
He is also an expert in International Studies, majoring in Middle East Studies, the course he taught both in Nigerian Universities and Abroad. He have served in almost all University Standing Committees at various times and has headed Department of History and Department of History & International Studies and currently, the Dean of the Academy’s Postgraduate School before his appointment as chairman governing council Kogi State University Anyigba (KSU).
He has produced several PhD holders in Nigeria and abroad and currently external examiner to several universities in Nigeria and abroad.
He have served in several capacities at State and Federal levels. These include Member of Presidential Research Team in 2004-06 during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure; member of the Presidential Police Reform Committee in 2009 during president Umaru Musa Yar’adua’s tenure and Chairman Team XX of the Federal Government Needs Assessment in 2013 to Southsouth Universities.He remain the longest serving Dean of PG School. In his 5th year despite his desire to vacate at every point. It all zero down to Almighty Allah’s guidance, destiny and, of course his administrative capacities. He has worked in Southwast Asia and part of US Universities as a professor, still a student, nay at the Institute of Critical Thinking, USA.
So, Prof Adams have developed some capacities and gathered experiences and expertise just as he is informed about the current global trend in academics particularly university administration. He has received so many awards hence distinguished himself from other Nigeria professors.
No doubt, Kogi State university is now under the watch of an astute, dedicated, God fearing, workaholic man, of course, this is not mere exaltation but a well deserved honour.
As much as I know, Professor Adams Ahmed is a man that render his services sincerely yet does not care of blowing his own trumpet. I only got to know who he was when I had the rare opportunity of visiting him in the capacity of a NAKOSS president sometimes in May last year and I wondered why he was not always on the Nigeria newspapers only then did I realize that he is a very simple man who does not want to be publicized.
Please join me in Congratulating my leader, mentor, guardian and father in the person of Professor Adams Ahmed on his appointment as Chairman, Governing Council for Kogi State University.
May God grant him the wisdom to oversee the affairs of the university.
