I have read with consternation, the viral news about the arrest of my friend, a brother, Usman Okai Austin, the PDP youth frontier leader and the leading opposition voice in Kogi State by security operatives believed to be from the Special Anti – Robbery Squad, SARS over alleged criticism of the government of Kogi State.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with an indigene of the state opposing the leadership style of an incumbent governor.
This is full – blown dictatorship now in action and it is now a case of anarchists in power. We are now back to the 1984 jackboot system of intolerance, where all dissenting views and opinions must be silenced.
Therefore, it is appalling and absolutely uncalled for to imagine that a governor who has the power to address things in a proper way would resort to the abuse of human right thereby negating his status and reneging in his responsibilities to be an example.
I thereby urge the governor to respect the rule of law and for the sake of democracy to release Austin.
