As usual of me, I woke up to start a new week on social media and my psyche is yet to understand the first post I saw on Facebook which had a photo of high ranking Kogi public servants attached to it. What prompted the idea is unclear to me but the development subjected me into reflection.
Godly according to my mobile dictionary means “glorious good” and at its least means a godly manner such as piety and righteousness. Hence, my point of contemplation as the average Kogite’s impression about the government of the day is by far very contrary to the foregoing as live is unequivocally hard to a point never experienced in the state.
Or could it be that the customizers of the shirt in exhibition intended goody before an autocorrect qwerty keyboard typed “godly”? As ignorant and weak as I am in faith, my natural instinct tells me for anybody to have gone so high and spiritual to call himself a “Godly politician”, he or she might have physically perfected Gods will for the poor, the religious teaching of Justice and egalitarianism but reverse is the case of this virtues as far as the present kogi state is concerned.
Goody on its part is used to indicate pleasure and delight of which; unless we shy away from the truth is what characterize public services in Nigeria and particularly kogi state. In earnest, thus government has spent more money on the comfort and pleasure of those within its structure than it has cared for the masses.
There can’t be anything Godly in a government Professor Joseph Ozigi conveniently described on a Facebook feed saying-“It is wrong to sell your house at your own chosen price to the state government, buying jeeps for paddy paddy men when he can not pay the civil servants that matters most and receiving bailout money without tangible justification”.
Furthermore, it can only be called a goody government for the governor to celebrate his birthday in grand style during the holy month of Ramadan and yet fail to pay civil servants before sallah. It is even more contradicting to say the Godly embracing politician couldn’t for once hold a convenient prayer session without a full deployment of security personnel likeable to the of a nation in emergency.
Whether “Godly or Goody”, human being is naturally configured with empathy and I therefore call on our Godly politicians to lease with the goody ones and pay civil servants whim have turned cooperate beggars their salaries. Both religious faiths and social norm attaches value to the quick and prompt payment of a labourers wage. No doubt, hunger is on the increase and only money and basic social amenities can solve hunger as nothing can substitute the two.
Finally, the state government has has through MDAs maintained that legitimate workers has been cleared, I want to advise as a way of conclusion that since a significant number of genuine staff are not just victims but crying foul of the verification exercise with many of them less than five to ten years out of service. I strongly suggest a review or compulsory retirement as soft landing for such people whose case cannot be resolved. This way, they can easily have access to pension and their lives will go on well again.
God Bless The Godly Politicians,
God Bless Kogi State Of Nigeria.
