It was unfortunate that despite the bailout funds received by the state, Governor Yahaya Bello could not pay off all the outstanding salaries in the state. Bello who claimed to be friend of workers and pensioners in the employ of Kogi State government has finally smashed their hopes on wall.
I have said it several times and again that Bello has an agenda different from offering better life for the people of Kogi State. Bello has demonstrated again that he is only in government to make himself comfortable while the rest of Kogi people suffer. Bello’s refusal to pay dying pensioners who spent their productive years in the service of the state is a callous neglect of the elderly, who the governor deceived with mouth – watering promises, including prompt payment and next week syndrome on the mass media and cheap publicity from hungry online reporters. I wonder if those online reporters, writers and politicians who always say, “something is working in Kogi State ” live in a different planet.
The most recent is his well publicized promise that all outstanding salaries will be cleared by 20th December, 2016. To cover up, as is their usual characteristics, he paid same set of workers he has been paying since, leaving vast majority of workers in trauma and abject poverty. The recent payment of salaries that his hired online choristers are shouting about covered less than 30% of cleared civil servants in the state.
Bello is hiding under a fraudulent verification exercise to deprive workers and pensioners of their entitlements. Workers and pensioners are been deceived to go for verification when about 95% of them have concluded their verification over four months ago but the governor is hiding under the so-called verification to deny them their payment. How will a sick pensioner who is receiving treatment complete verification? This is fraudulent on the part of a mean governor who calls himself friend of the masses.
White Lion, Talk and Do Bello, as his praise singing vuvuzelas prefer to call him, paying worker’s salaries in Kogi State does not call for any celebration.
