There are only two kinds of politicians that run the affairs of Kogi state – the ones that get results, and the ones that make excuses. If you’re in that second camp, you’re not going to return to power 2019 no matter the gimmick you apply to skimm your way through because the people of kogi state will vomit you.
Ladies and gentlemen, I’m glad I belong to the Office of the Citizens of Kogi State. This is relatively the most powerful office in the constitution of federal republic of Nigeria.
I’ve vowed not to consciously abuse my constitutional rights, rather, to exercise it towards agitating for good governance in Nigeria and i draw my powers from the constitution of the FRN, Chapter II 14 2(a) which unequivocally states that “sovereignty belong to the people of Nigeria from whom the government through this constitution derives all it power and authority”
“For this cause I was born, and for this purpose  I have come into the world, that I shall bear witness to the truth, Justice and good governance in my life time.”
It’s often said, that Nigeria have everything it takes to make her people feel the dividends of democracy which is absolutely true but I’ll amplify it by saying, leadership is not the problem, but true leaders. Today in every state we have governor, senators, house of reps, chairmen and councillors and caretakers. All these are leaders in quote but the ingredient that make up true leader is lagging in most of them.
Excuses have become their language and we must as a matter of urgency drop excuses and do the needful for good governance to surface.
Ladies and gentlemen, great youth of kogi state, the era of excuses have come and gone. if the present leadership refuse to key into true democracy we must stand up as a people and demand for it.  Leadership is about taking responsibility, not making excuses, true leaders is highly in demand in our state.
“One of the key problems today is that politics is such a disgrace, good people don’t go into government.” as rightly opined by Donald Trump
This article is aimed at addressing the crisis rocking our dear state and to checkmate the activities of our representatives both at federal and state tiers and down to the local government.
We have many leaders who make excuses more than projecting the executed projects they’ve achieved in office, and we must not allow such leaders return to office. Time have come to reject politics of excuses, we need a leader who will feel ashamed for what they had done, if wrongly; a leader who will take responsibility for his action instead of passing the bulk to opposition; a leader who will humbly say, ‘I don’t have any excuse, I take full responsibility for myself and my actions. I will not pawn this off on anybody, I hurt people  and I’m sorry it happened’.
This bring me to civil servant salary saga in kogi state. I once said I will not speak on this matter again but I consider it very important to speak briefly because I really don’t enjoy government that take her people as the last resort. If democracy is the government of the people by the people and for the people then the people are the common factor and they must be prioritize without any iota of bias and excuse.
I believe it is not out of place if Kogi government tender apology to the civil servant for the delay and starvation and all they went through during the screen exercise. It is an insult to our civil servant, to expect them to sing praise and appreciation for paying them their dues (salary) they have worked for, especially when it has lingered for months. The salary ought to have come with apology letter. A state without civil servant is doom and civil servant have much role to play in ensuring New Direction Mandate and for good governance to see the light of the day. Government activities cannot be notice if the welfare  of her civil servant is not prioritized and wherever we need to apologize to them we must not feel arrogant to do so. Ego kill leaders faster than corruption.
His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, The Executive Governor of Kogi State, if the salary Issue refuse to be put to rest before the year run out, I will be push to say “Under the leadership of governor Yahaya Bello, the ties between the government and  civil servant  is like that of master and slave”. We are being pulled apart rather than pulling together. Our democracy is suffering from the choices being made, and yet we are offered the same tired and useless  excuses and incoherent analyses.”
Democracy have become a system of government that is characterized with excuses without shame. Our leaders are proud of shifting the blame by reeling out seemingly inconsequential reasons as to why they could not perform, yet they cling to power and deprive those who have knowledge and technical knowhow to come in.
It is Benjamin Franklin who said, “He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else”.
Every four (4) years constitution of federal republic of Nigeria demand that we change leaders, yet it appear we aren’t changing leaders instead changing party while the same failed, crooked and corrupted leaders metamorphous to take the lead again.
They choose boreholes instead of constructing our water work to give the entire community access to water.
They give selected few scholarship instead of equipping our schools for the  entire people to have access to education.
They give stomach infrastructure to selected few instead of empowering our civil servant to be able to feed their families.
They distribute okada instead of creating job for the youths to enable them buy the okada and still have resource to run through life.
Ladies and gentle, the modern charismatics leaders have successfully produce more lazy and criminal minded youths than intellectual and hardworking ones.
Are you not surprise when all the kidnappers and armed robber paraded by DSS and police are within the age range of 20 -45? Laziness have eat deep into the fabric of our soul. yet these does not mean anything to our excuse leaders in power but keep equipping thugs and criminals for their selfish interest. the truth I tell you, your tenor will soon be over and you will come face to face with your disciples whom you have equipped with arms.
When leaders lack vision excuse and violence is the next option.  A leader must have a vision but that vision must be fulfilled by goals that work toward  the achievement of the vision. A vision is the foundation for all leadership.
2019 is here, we are not going to settle for less, ethnic politics must be trample, religion and language will not be the determinant of great leader. Democracy is not the government of excuses but government of responsibility. We need visionary leader who will match his word with action.
No wonder George Washington Carver said,  Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses. when leaders begin to give excuse he is on a mission of failure. I OGO’OGU MD is saying to all our representatives, we have heard your excuses, it is good to ears but not acceptable. *Go Get The job Done Or Get Out Of The Way.* stop wasting our hard earned resource on useless project that benefit selected few.
We must not constantly talk about tackling crime and corruption and warning people about the negative consequences of crime. Instead we must be positive – positive about the fun and benefits of good governance, trying to get rid of excuses leaders for not performing below standard in a positive way in democratic setting.
The system have been bastardize and redefine to suit their ego, democracy suddenly become a system that make selected few wealthy at the expense of the masses. everyone who in one way the other serve public office must start now to put his/her house in order because we will demand for accountability most especially, even my friend in the system will not be spare.
Our leaders should see themselves as teachers. your lifestyle and conducts define who you are. A good teacher isn’t  someone who gives the answers out to their children but is understanding of needs and challenges and gives tools to help other people succeed. That’s how  leaders at all level should see themselves, so whatever it is that you will do now in politics, do it well children are watching.
In as much I believe we must have to be bold in our national, state and ambitions.
We must as a matter of urgency win the fight against poverty,
We must improve moral standards in government and society to provide a strong foundation for good governance in the state,
We must change the character of our politics to promote fertile ground for everyone to display their skills and talent regardless of age and religion without anointed candidacy. These how peace and unity can be usher in for good governance to surface in our dear state and local government.
My prayer is that, all we need to meet the yarning of the people God will grant our leaders.
I Will See A State That Work In My Life Time.
God Bless You
God bless Kogi State
God Bless Nigeria
