It was a great scene as I saw Union Bank awarding this great woman, Hajia Rekiat Imabe Atabo. It was amazing because I never thought any good can come out of a bank like this talk more of even reaching the grassroot here in Idah.
I was on the long queue trying to make transaction with their ATM with little hope of succeeding in my transaction when I saw the bank manager and staff presenting the award. I was surprised and came closer to find out what company was presenting the award of a generator to this woman via Union Bank and to my greatest surprise it was Union Bank itself!
The recipient, Hajia Atabo expressed joy that she was considered despite her little deposits in the Union Bank.
“I have been advised on several occasions to change my bank (Union) for the fact that it is an old bank only trying to move towards digitalization and then I told them that I am also of the archaic generation trying to move towards globalization.
“Let me seize this opportunity to disabuse the mind of every Nigerian who have that believe that union bank cannot excel beyond only trying to be the best but state categorically and unequivocally that they are absolutely the best!
“Barely a week ago, I got a call from Union Bank manager Idah branch that I won the grand price of a 3300watts thermocool generator and ignoring the call I said it is all these 419 guys but my husband insisted on tracing the call via his true caller and lo and behold it was the same James Agwu that called me earlier, so I immediately called the bank manager at Egume who later confirmed it was true and I reached Idah only to be celebrated massively.
“I thought of what warranted me winning the grand price for I only operate a current account with them and it was not as if I have millions in the account (laughing) but then was I told that union bank is a bank opened to all customers irrespective of cadre, wealth, religion, tribe etcetera and indeed it is bank worthy of our patronage.
“As an ambassador of Union Bank, I call on Kogi people to check out Union Bank services as the Bank is poised to you only the best. I stand ‘gidigba’ with Union Bank”, she said.
I therefore state that she has not only succeeded in disabussing my mind but she has also succeeded in getting me to open an account with them along two of my kids. Please learn from my mistake, their mistake, our mistakes by not judging a book by its cover.
