Before Governor Yahaya Bello assumed office on 27th of January 2016 as the 4th Executive Governor of Kogi State, we all know how Kogi politics and governance used to be. Back then, we all know that if you don’t belong to some certain group or caucus in Kogi politics, you can’t be appointed or have access to the Governor.
But when Gov Bello came on board in 2016, his first three appointments cut across the three senatorial district of the State; Edward Onoja, the Chief of Staff from Kogi East, Abdulkarim Abdulmalik, the Special Adviser on Media from Kogi Central, and Kingsley Fanwo, the Chief Press Secretary from Kogi West.
We must not forget that before the emergence of Gov. Bello, the Chief of Staff do come from the same zone with the Governor and most of the juicy appointments must be either their family members, friends, in-laws and relatives. And if we check the history of those appointed then, some of them have been in government since the creation of the State.
All thanks to Gov. Bello for the hope he gave to the common man, because if not for him there’s no hope that a common man can be either Commissioner, Special Adviser, Special Assistant or Local Government Administrators and so on.
A new Kogi is emerging, and the change occurring across Kogi, either in terms of the scale of massive infrastructure projects, urban regeneration activity or a shift in perception is monumental and visible throughout the State.
Over the past three and a half years, Kogi has undergone possibly the biggest transformation since its creation in 1991. I can boldly say that GYB have empower over thousands of lives either through appointment, youth empowerment, job creation, women empowerment, agriculture etc.
Gov. Bello has also through some certain initiatives given all Kogites a voice, and to see one another as one big family restraining sentiments and ethnic bigotry.
Dear Kogites, let’s remember that Rome was not built in a day, therefore let’s support, canvass and vote for Gov. Bello come 29th of August and November 16 for more dividends of democracy.
