The New Direction ethos I know in Kogi State foundationally borders on: Youthful Governance, Agriculture, Tourism and SMEs development. That is why I find the current Government on the path of prosperity even as many of the faultlines of the developmental intentions is louder by intermediate crisis that is occasional with every growing state.
Besides that, the current social opprobrium caused by the about 146 Appointment made by the Administrator of Dekina Local Government Area is not something I clearly understand yet. Amiss that confirmation, I would also like to register some salient points:
- Dekina Local Government Area is the “largest” by landmark and probably humans in the whole of Kogi State. Some people always theorize that it also comes off as the largest local government area in West Africa. If we are to work with any of these theories, suffice to say, the administrative workforce needed by the Chairman of Igalamela Local Government Area cannot by size or number dwarf Dekina that has larger administrative burden.
- Recently, there were cries by some people in the opposition that some boys who, have worked for the Government have been sidelined. Arguments for appointments were substantiated even though we argued that Government is not a general largess. The people who have been appointed into various offices, are they not from Kogi State? Are they not those who cases were made for?
- Does this not portend as one of the challenges the Yahaya Bello Government faces? In an attempt to reduce overhead, rebellion takes over the system because those who have been in power for a long time made it a routine. Everyone who supports Governmental strides cannot separate their interests by half and balance the remainder with patriotism, how do we now fix the gap between political mileages and governance?
- It was shared that the former Chairman of Dekina Local Government, Ahmadu Ali also appointed about 123 aides into his cabinet, at what point can the people see a difference in approach without rebellion when this precedent is not kept? That is one of the problems of governance. The people are the problems, we want change but we do not want it to start from us.
- Finally, I certainly do not have any opinion about this that some people do not feel offended. But I strongly believe that Governor Bello would not take responsibility for this. I also believe that as a LGA Administrator, there is a modicum of sovereignty for decision making, hence, if the LG Administrator thinks that he requires this workforce, after going over it again, he would adequately make the proper decision that would best our social, economic and political realities.
