Opinion: Dare to Struggle by Eneye Mubarak

I have come to the realization that there comes a rough ride on the way to realising dreams, most of the experiences being not so pleasant. These are also the testing times in disguise, asking you to kick harder. The more you pack a punch, the higher you will rise! There are times we are faced with difficulties, facing all sorts of trials, agony and misery. We just quietly wish to ourself for someone or something to take us away from the pain and misery and show us some happiness again. Life has’nt always been easy for anybody, which makes us all have our individual problems; ‘how do i get money?’ and ‘How do i get more money?’ are both problems in a different and parallel worlds.

But however, each problem has come with a solution. In the words of Josef stalin “Death is the solution to all problems.” Which i dont totally agree with, but literally speaking, he is correct also seeing it from the rearview he is also correct. We worry about so many things; if we are going to be successful or not; if we are going to make it through whatever it is that is bothering us; we worry about every single thing. But the moment we die, we worry about nothing. Hence, our problems has been solved with a universal solution, it may not be the best of solutions but it did solved the problems. Since life comes before death we have to survive by any means necessary.

Looking at it critically, a problem we do not have solution to, is not longer a problem. However, we worry about them anyway but worry has never solved a single problem in the world, but thinking has. As they say ‘the world belongs to the thinkers”. You can spend minutes, hours, days, weeks, or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could’ve, would’ve happened… or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move on.

Let me borrow a page from the story of guy who lost both of his parent, he did’nt cry or spent his whole life begging or seeking for empathy from people. He did’nt spent his whole day and night worrying about it but he spent his days doing hard jobs trying to survive, trying to make something out of the nasty things life gave him, he managed to smile through all of that and his nights, he spent studying, he got himself into school. I say, he dared to struggle.

A girl told me recently, she said her mom died while she was just 8years old, she did’nt know how it feels like to lose a parent at that age. But with time, she did but unfortunately she did’nt care. Her dad was busy doing jobs to care enough for the young girl. She said to her self ‘whats life without ma?’ she thought life was’nt worth living. In her own words, she started living a ‘reckless life’ even before the prime of her teenage years.

As a young girl, its easier to be manipulated, brainwashed or even get raped by a much older or mature guys or ‘hungry boys’ as i like to put it. Sadly, she got pregnant eventually at just the tender age of 14 and she had to abort it without no one having any knowledge about it. Now, the little girl is all grown up and has come to the realization that she made a mistake, a little bit of dare could’ve solved the problem, a dare to struggle. Right before we decide to drop our tools of hardwork and give up, we should atleast dare to struggle.

We can spend the whole day judging whats right or wrong but as long as we continue to live as if we are what we do, what we have, and what other people think about us, we will remain filled with judgments, opinions, evaluations, and condemnations. We will remain addicted to putting people and things in their “right” place. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying looking at the surface of the ocean itself, except that when you finally see what goes on underwater, you realize that you’ve been missing the whole point of the ocean. Staying on the surface all the time is like going to the circus and staring at the outside of the tent.

My sole purpose of sharing these experiences is that many a times we want to do something that we love but restrain ourselves fearing of what people might think about us or we’ll be laughed at or we’ll be losers or being ridiculed. This fear, though quite natural, is actually unnecessary. Every person who has made it big has failed quite a number of times
and has been laughed at by people, has been criticized and ridiculed. Despite this, what makes these people rise, is their self belief. This self belief became stronger with every criticism that came their way, every failure they faced, and every difficult situation that they came across. Such people are never afraid of trying because they know that each time they try, they are one step ahead of what they were before. Hence, one has nothing to lose if he or she tries. In fact it’s a win-win situation, since if one succeeds it’s good and even if one doesn’t succeed he or she is still better than what they
were before.

Just like the so many greats; Michael Faraday, the genius of electricity, is very much a classic tale of the rise from obscure origins to scientific eminence, and let’s take a glimpse into the inspirational life of Helen Keller who was born blind, who had lived with blindness herself until her death to the life of Malcolm X, his family was a constant target of local racist groups. Malcolm saw his father assaulted and killed by a moving car. His mom had a mental illness, from his teenage years he survived on his own. Whatever the case, and whatever your views are on Malcolm X, it’s tough to deny that he was one of the world’s most ambitious figures. A voracious reader, his time behind bars was spent learning, both about himself and about the world as a whole.

All these people did’nt find it easier, they did’nt achieve success by waiting for someone else to give it to them, they decided to take it, they dared to struggle. Because while we sit here wailing over nothing and everything, the world keeps moving and if we dont start moving too we will eventually be sidelined; for those who fall behind are left behind.
Whether successful or not, we should be able to look back one day on all our problems and say with much delight and satisfaction and say to ourself that ‘atleast i dared to struggle’.

This habit of trying or struggling makes a person stronger. When something seems difficult, dare to do it anyway.
When life seems to beat you down, dare to fight back. When there seems to be no hope, dare to find some.
When you’re feeling tired, dare to keep going. When times are tough, dare to be tougher.

“As far as our own desire is concerned, we do not want to fight even for a single day. However, if circumstances force us to fight, we can fight to the finish.” -Mao Tse Tsung
