The Best Senator Kogi East Never Had

An Open Letter to Hajiya Salamatu Baiwa Umar-Eluma: Why Leave Us in The Cold?

We started calling that you join the political race to liberate our people in Kogi East by contesting for the Senate seat, many adviced you then to stick to you career at FAAN. These advises came from people who saw you as a threat to the selfish political agenda of promoting hunger, poverty and underdevelopment in our land.

Finally MAMA, you decided to join the game of politics, but to me at a wrong end. The same people that were shouting that you should concentrate on your career at FAAN are the same people congratulating you on your victory as the national woman leader of our great party, APC, because they have succeeded in pushing away their greatest political threat and obstacle, that was a product of the love and trust of the masses, away.

Just like Oliver Twist, I keep wondering why a woman of substance choose to serve the interest of a few than that of a lager human society as a whole? This answer is best known to God and conscience alone.

Mama/Hajiya, God has removed hunger, poverty etc from your generation, but Mama remember that there are many that are been colonized and romanced by poverty, hunger etc in our dear Igala land and Kogi state as a whole due to bad political leadership.

Mama Kogi, we appreciate your efforts so far. You liberated many families from the shackles of poverty and hunger, but just like Oliver Twist, we want more and that was why we called on you for a socio-economic and political rescue of our land.

Our situation:

Mama Kogi, the situation back home is becoming unbearable, humanitarian crises, ecological problems, hunger, poverty, child labour, infant mortality, widows, orphans, absence of basic socio-infrastructural facilities like water, hospitals and even basic education are the order of the day.

From the lonely towns of Ankpa to Dekina, Anyigba, Ofu, Olamaboro, Idah etc all we hear and see are situation of what I called ‘human soci-economic mal-adjustment’ caused and implanted by mal-adjusted politicians and their selfish greed.

My prayers:

The fact that Kogi East needs a cleaner and human political touch is not in doubt and not negotiable. People like us have not lost political hope that people like you, Hajiya, will still come to rescue our dear land from these menace now or in the future. But as we await the time when women of substance filled with human sympathy will come to rescue our dear Igala land, I have one request to make: Hajia, please help set up an endowment/empowerment or intervention fund for the widows and orphans in the land.

A critical analysis and survey will show that these categories of people needs such intervention. Allah/God will provide the resources and ability for you to pilot this project.

Finally, I wish to see that God blessed day when I will see a building with the inscription ‘Hajiya Salamatu Baiwa Widows and Orphan Empowerment Centre’ or a poster with the inscription: ‘Hajiya Salamatu Baiwa for Senate, Kogi East District’.

Thank you and God bless you in your continuous quest to serve humanity.
