As part of the festivities marking Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and Deputy Governor Joel Salifu’s one-year anniversary in office scheduled for January 27, 2025, members of the State Executives and the State House of Assembly participated in a novelty match on Sunday at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja.
The Executives were led by the Deputy Chief Servant of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, while the State House of Assembly members were led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar.
The novelty match ended in a goalless draw as both teams exhibited determination and endurance to prevent any goals from being scored.
Speaking after the match, the State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, expressed delight in the quality of talent on the football field.
He noted that final score also reflected the mutual respect between the two arms of government in Kogi state.
Fanwo said the show of sportsmanship and comradeship displayed on the field of play is same off the field as the executive arm of government continued to accord the legislature utmost respect.
State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Monday Anyebe, commended both teams for their impressive display of skills during the match.
According to him, the novelty match was organized as part of activities to celebrate Governor Ododo’s one-year anniversary and to promote sports development in the state.
Mr. Anyebe expressed his satisfaction with the level of competition displayed by both teams, which he said was comparable to professional football league players.
He called on the people of the state to engage in physical exercise often to keep fit at all times.
