One person died and several injured in a major fire incident which occurred on Wednesday along the busy old zango expressway as truck loaded with diesel exploded.
The midday incident has caused a serious traffic gridlock, with motorists on both sides of the expressway held down for hours.
The ugly incident was said to have occurred midday when a truck coming down from Okene end’s and heading towards old-zango axis suddenly hit one of the parked commercial car carrying passages beside the ever-busy expressway.
The fire men who came to the scene had a tough time quelling the fire. At some point, the water the fire truck brought got exhausted
As at the time of filing this report, motorists coming from the Nagazi end of the road were diverted to another route to continue their journeys to enable those coming from Lagos to make use of the only available way.
In the same vein, Adavi local government administrator Hon Ajoge Enesi Abu have drafted Adavi division police officials to the scene, to control the hectic traffic and tow the burnt vehicles from the scene.
Speaking to Adavi media team, the DTO of Adavi police division said his men were on ground to clear the scene and control the congested traffic. He also narrated details of the incident.
“The incident occurred midday as a result of an oncoming truck hit one of the commercial car carrying passages beside the expressway, which is close to the main road Inter-change. It was as a result of the impact that explosion occurred, while the fire attracted other parked cars at the car wash and consumed them”.
The police official said efforts were ongoing to take out all the affected vehicles and make the roads motorable again.
In his reaction, the DPO of Adavi police division, said that one unidentified persons was burnt beyond recognition.
He said the corpse have been deposited at Okene General Hospital in Okene local government council.
An eye witness also said one people was critically injured and currently receiving treatment.
