Like the sequence of rain which starts by sky clouding, darkening and then downpour. The attacks in Igala land started like a tale in a community in Dekina, then to another community and now it has spreaded to different communities in Omala. However, no problem can ever be solved with emotions attached. The human massacre going on in Kogi east is not about the government or political leaning but our bond in humanity. This therefore makes a reminisce of the past cum some questions very pertinent to put forth. And they are that;
From personal observations and limited knowledge, it has come to my notice that most of those sharing the more negative information of this carnage are relying majorly on the trends of social media for their updates (plagiarism).
2- Rather than brainstorming in the direction of solutions, some people are so pessimistic to the extent of bringing old pictures of similar strikes to justify their arguments of a no backslide.
3- It has become a general knowledge that the army is widely alleged of not been professional enough in their defense of innocent civilians across the victimised communities.
Pathetically, I have it on good account that the Kogi state vigilantes are armed but there are no indications of them putting into practical at this critical time the efficiency to posses this weapons onward. Then, I ask to know if the pride of a full course military training will ever allow any Armed Force(s) to work in unison with a war untested vigilantes.
While the guess as to whether or not the military can work with local vigilantes to subside this menace can only be determined by time. There are other worrisome issues rising from the contradictory position of a royal father and the council administrator to the risk of evil perpetrators taking Intel reports from the discussions and information shared on social media platforms about this onslaught.
But, whatever be the case – government must rise up to it’s responsibility of protecting lives and properties and if it the present situation be more than the state government can tackle… There shouldn’t be further hesitation in calling on the federal government. Only through this shall there be a lasting solution to these problems. Let’s not forget that we are humans before gender, tribes, faith, politics, status etc.
This is not about political scores nor ethnosocial credits but a call for reflections and quick actions for the greater good of humanity. While praying that God puts to shame the undertakers of this evil, may he restore lasting peace to “AnĂ© Igala” and Kogi state in general.
