The sudden takeoff in the status of former Federal College of Education, Pankshin to a University status, now Federal University of Education, Pankshin came like a thunderstorm. It struck like hypersonic missile, fast and precise.
Barely four months to the inauguration of the Governing Council of the College by the Federal Government, the institution have received quick attention that spanned immediate upgrade and current ministerial assessment that led to the unveiling of the institution as a university.
Now, it’s no longer a news. Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State has come to stay like every other university in Nigeria. And of course, these feats couldn’t have been possible without a strong will and commitment demonstrated by the Chairman, Governing Council, members and other crucial stakeholders within the region.
Worth of note is the role of the ministerial assessment team which consists of official of the Federal Ministry of Education, National University Commission (NUC) and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), who have ensured that all necessary criteria are met for the successful takeoff of the university.
The dedication and expertise of these individuals towards this milestone transformation no doubt underscore collective support in building not only strong alignment for growth and development within the region but also serve as a cornerstone to foster an academic excellence now and in the future.
In his oratory speech, the Chairman, Governing Council of the University, Hon. Funsho Ekundayo Olumoko eloquently adumbrate the invaluable contributions and commitment to the transformative journey of the university. Underscoring the significant milestone in the transition of the institution, he noted that the he newly established Federal University of Education will champion the course of academic excellence and innovation in form of giving back to the society.
According to him, this can be done by prioritizing the improvement of academic programs, research efforts, and student support services; focusing on enhancing academic programmes, research initiatives, and student support services for excellence in teaching, researching in order to meet a demand of a world-class university.
He furthered that the university will place a high priority on effective and efficient academic innovation to draw on elite support system and community engagement, in addition to giving students an unforgettable educational experience, fosters culture of creativity and research. Adopting innovative teaching strategies, making investments in cutting-edge research facilities, and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration towards academic excellence to become one of the leading leaders in research on a world scale. He however assured a dedicated honour and devotion to the diligent the political leaders who are also on surface of the institution’s establishment and urged for value addition for the advancement of knowledge base economy.
In a related development, the Ministerial Assessment Committee leader, Dr. U.C Uba in her remarks, thanked Hon. Olumoko for outstanding support, leadership trust and unalloyed commitment to ensure efficient conduct of the assessment and unveiling exercise.
In her words, “Your team’s hospitality, planning, and attention to detail made a significant impact on the Committee and made the visit a great success. We are grateful for your exceptional leadership and the way you made sure everyone’s needs and comforts were met; this is a testament to your commitment to the University’s growth and development, she noted.
Furthermore, in recognition of the sterling performance of the Chairman, Hon. Funsho Olumoko, the students union government of the university has honoured him for his efforts in the actualisation of Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Platuea State.
An occasion that welcomed dignitaries from all walk of lives, including notable community leaders, representatives of government functionaries become historic, eventful and reference.
