The National President of the Okun socio-cultural umbrella body, Okun Development Association (ODA), Barr. Femi Mokikan, on Tuesday, led the executive committee members of the association to pay homage to the Olu of Oworo, HRM Oba Mohammed Bayerohi at his Lokoja Palace.
The President in his speech thanked the Olu for hosting the Executive Committee meeting held yesterday at Unique International Hotel, Lokoja. The president further thanked him for the huge and very warm reception accorded them during the meeting.
Barr. Mokikan explained to the Olu the rationale behind the choice of Oworo as the host of the second meeting of the executive as being a means of giving Oworo people a full sense of belonging as indivisible part of the Okun nation.
He emphasised the need for unity in Okun land and explains that the benefits therein are unequalled. The outstanding and enviable leadership style of the Olu of Oworo was enthused.
The president on a final note appealed to the Olu to continue to act as a father to the association that he has always being.
His Royal Majesty, in his response, thanked the ODA for the recognition and respect for him and the Oworo people which was demonstrated by the choice of holding the meeting in his domain.
He went further to give a brief historical account of the relationship between Okun and brother other groups in the state and admonished all to live in harmony with every one of our neighbours.
He charged the executive to work together as a united team for the benefit of Okun people stressing that the benefits in working in unity cannot be over emphasised. He counselled that the ODA must put God first in everything as nothing happens without God’s knowledge and without a reason.
The Olu on a final note wished the Executive a safe trip back to their various destinations.
