The Okun Development Association (ODA), Jigawa State chapter, has donated food items and other essential supplies to the state orphanage in Dutse as part of its annual end-of-year celebrations.
Speaking during the presentation, the chairman of the association, Alhaji Ibrahim Ismaila Idowu, said the donation aligns with the group’s tradition of giving back to society. He explained that the Okun community, a Yoruba ethnic group from Kwara State residing in Jigawa, uses its yearly celebrations to reconnect and make meaningful contributions to their host communities.
“This year, we decided to support the children in this orphanage. We hope this gesture will positively impact their lives and give them a sense of belonging as future leaders of our society,” he said.
Alhaji Idowu stressed the importance of sharing blessings and privileges, adding, “Some of us are orphans, yet we have been fortunate. This is why we feel compelled to extend a helping hand to these children, ensuring they experience joy and comfort.”
The donated items included a bag of rice, digestive biscuits, soft drinks, packets of salt, Maggi seasoning, pasta, and detergent soap.
The chairman also called on other groups, organizations, and philanthropists to emulate their efforts by supporting vulnerable children in orphanages and their communities.
Receiving the items, the Director of Child Development at the Jigawa State Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Halima Yusuf, represented by her deputy, Hajiya Fausat I. Muhammad, expressed appreciation for the thoughtful donation. She assured the association that the items would be used effectively to benefit the children.
The event highlighted the Okun community’s commitment to fostering unity, compassion, and social responsibility, leaving a lasting impression on the children and staff at the orphanage.
