The Administrator of Okene Local Government Area, Engr. (Mall) Abdulrazaq Muhammad had to cut short his official engagements in Lokoja, on Wednesday, to visit the scene of a tragic road accident which occurred on Tuesday night at Idakoivo hill along Okene-Lokoja axis in Adavi Local Area to sympathise with the victims and ensure that the vehicular gridlocks are cleared to ease free-flow of traffic on the ever busy Okene -Lokoja express road.
According to a press statement signed by the Administrator’s media aide,
Abdulmumin Abubakar, the council helmsman visited the accident scene in company of his supervisors for health and education, special advisers on security, media and publicity, thanked men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Police, drivers’ union and other well wishers who worked round the clock to ensure all the surviving victims were evacuated to the hospital and the dead moved to the morgue.
While conducting the council leader round the scene of the accident, the officials of Federal Roads Safety Corps said the accident was caused by a tanker loaded with fuel which lost control while ascending the hill lost control and went in flames.
Hon. Abdulrazaq said he was personally touched, therefore on hearing the sad news of this unfortunate incidence, he directed all water tankers in Okene to supply water throughout the night to quench the raging inferno.
The Administrator cautioned all road users to drive with care and ensure their vehicles are road worthy before plying the road to avoid a repeat of this incidence. Before leaving the scene of the road mishap, Hon. Abdulrazaq provided allowances for all those that worked throughout the night as a means of appreciation and encouragement.
The combine efforts of Federal Roads Safety Officers, the Police and others have successfully removed all burnt vehicles from the road and the traffic jam within Okene metropolis has now been resolved.
The Administrator condoled with the families of those who lost their loved ones and sympathised with those whose vehicles and other belongings were destroyed in the inferno.
