People of Odeke and Echeno Communities in Ibaji LGA of Kogi State have been asked to be peaceful in their conduct as Orient Petroleum begins a seismic Survey of the area for oil exploration.
Kogi State Governor Capt Idris Wada made the appeal when he met with political, traditional and community leaders of Odeke Community of Ibaji LGA of Kogi State, ahead planned seismic survey by Orient Petroleum Plc.
The Governor solicited the understanding of the people, promised that the meeting with the leaders became necessary so as to sensitize the people about the planned commencement of the seismic survey and the need for the people to have a proper understanding of the issues involved.
Capt Wada who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi added that his meeting with the leaders was to further intimate them about development reached with the National Boundary Commission as well as with Orient Petroleum PLC on the planned seismic survey of the communities located in the state.
Capt Wada pointed out that the present area earmarked for the survey had never been in dispute, posited that the communities are in Kogi State.
The Governor disclosed that the meeting with the elders was to put arrangements in place that would enable the oil company carry out a smooth exploration and for company to carry out its work unhindered.
Capt Wada assured the communities of every support that would make them the greatest beneficiary of the exploration, promising that every fears perceived by the host communities would be addressed.
Earlier in his address, Dave Oguh, Council Chairman of Ibaji LGA, said efforts has been made to sensitize the people about the planned seismic survey, assuring of their cooperation and understanding.
Mr Oguh lauded the role of the state government in ensuring peace among the communities and their neighbors, pledged the support of the people to endeavors geared towards improved socio – economic well being of his people.
