The attack on citizens in several communities by some unknown alleged herdsmen on Wednesday has been described by the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole as a callous act and one that must not be taken for mockery and political scores. The Speaker said it is an ugly incidence that should be condemned by all while harnessing efforts to collectively fight every form of insecurity and complement efforts of the State Government in protecting lives and property of the citizenry.
He also revealed that it is unfortunate and unpatriotic of some persons, for reasons mostly political to make mockery of the State leadership due to its decision to accommodate genuine and peaceful Fulani Herdsmen by keying into the Federal Government’s cattle colony initiative.
According to a statement by the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Femi Olugbemi which said in part;
“The decision of the State Government to key in to the Cattle Colony policy of the Federal Government and the decision of same to accommodate peaceful Fulani cattle rearers shouldn’t be a cover for anyone or group of persons to turn the state to an abode for criminals to perpetrate their evil. The decision is to consolidate on the Agri-Economic policies and give our dear State the befitting development it requires for bountiful benefits therein”
“The entire 6th Assembly commiserate with the families of those affected, and everything that needs to be done to forestall this ugly incident will be put in place. There’s an ongoing Bill to collect the biometric data of Fulani Herdsmen which after passage will help regulate their activities, check their influx and apprehend the criminals in guise,” the statement read.
The Speaker assured that the Government has contained the incidence, while stressing that security issues are too delicate to be politicized and that it is the business of all because anyone can be a victim.
It is only with the help and cooperation of the people that the Security agencies can gather a credible intelligence to work with.
