ODA Seeks Creation of Okun State, Lobbies Abejide

A socio-political organization, Okun Development Association (ODA) has reiterated it commitment to the aspirations of the Yoruba speaking people of Kogi state.

ODA President General, Amb. Rotimi Akenson, made this known when a joint delegation of the national executive council and constitution review committee of the association visited member representing Yagba federal constituency, Hon Leke Abejide, in the National Assembly on Monday.

Amb. Akenson told the lawmaker that the Yoruba people of Kogi state earnestly yearns for the creation of Okun State.

The joint delegation of the Okun Development Association (ODA) discussed the ongoing constitution review exercise in the National Assembly and its impact on the agitation for the creation of Okun state.

In a brief address, the ODA President General presented a memo representing the wishes and aspirations of Okun people worldwide for the creation of Okun state.

He acknowledged and commended Hon. Leke Abejide’s numerous contributions and giant strides in delivering democracy dividends across Okun land.

In response, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide commended the initiative of the new ODA leadership and advised intensifying efforts to garner concurrence from other Okun-speaking people in Ondo, Kwara, and Ekiti states.

As a member of the House’s Constitution Review Committee, Hon Abejide assured his readiness to sponsor a bill for the creation of Okun state on the floor of the House.

Also present at the meeting were: Dr. David Atteh, Chairman, ODA Constitution Review Committee; Chief J.O. Yusuf, Member, ODA Constitution Review Committee; Hon. Dayo Akanmode, ODA National Treasurer, and Hon. Bolanle Amupitan, ODA Abuja Liaison Officer.
