The Okun Development Association (ODA) has expressed deep sadness over the tragic loss of Major Joe Ajayi.
Major Ajayi was kidnapped from his residence in Odo-Ape, Kabba-Bunu local government area of Kogi state, a few weeks ago. He died in the kidnappers’ den, despite a ransom of N10 million paid for his release.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Dayo Thomas, the association described the late army major as a paragon of service, compassion, and leadership.

“Major Ajayi’s life was a shining testament to his unwavering commitment to humanity, marked by kindness, generosity, and empathy that touched countless lives.
“As a great leader, he led by example, dedicating himself to the service of his nation and community with unparalleled devotion and passion. We remember the tragic circumstances of his abduction, the agonizing two weeks of uncertainty, and the ultimate price paid. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the ransom, and we pray that God richly rewards your kindness.
“Major Ajayi’s remarkable life was a life of peace, service, and dedication. He was a combatant soldier who fought for victory and a pastor who won souls to God’s kingdom. His legacy challenges us to embrace peace, unity, and service to humanity. In his memory, we must unite as a community to demand action from our leaders to ensure our safety and security.
It is sad that Major Ajayi was murdered despite the payment of a N10 million ransom. This tragic incident underscores the urgent need for our leaders to take decisive action to address the security challenges facing our land,” the statement read.
ODA said it is also deeply troubled by the recent wave of kidnappings in Okun communities, particularly the unresolved case of the Obaloko of Okoloke, who was abducted in his palace.
The association urged relevant authorities to intervene urgently and provide adequate security measures to protect lives and properties in Odo-Ape and beyond.
