ODA Condemns Incessant Abduction of Farmers as Gunmen Kidnap Ponyan Chief, Ajayi Bello

The Okun Development Association has strongly condemned the kidnapping of Chief Sam Ajayi Bello by bandits in Ponyan, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.

A statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of ODA, Dayo Thomas said the brazen act has sent shockwaves throughout the community.

Chief Sam Ajayi, the MD of Ponyan Agricultural Foundation, Km 2, Ponyan-Irele Road, Ponyan, Yagba East LGA, was kidnapped from his poultry farm in Ponyan on Monday morning.

During the incident, one of the brave hunters, Folorunso Adetiba, was shot while tracking the kidnappers and is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

ODA said the incessant kidnapping of farmers has severely impacted the state, leading to skyrocketing food prices as many farmers are intimidated.

ODA President-General, Amb. Rotimi Akenson, emphasized that Chief Ajayi Bello’s abduction has sent fear through the agrarian community, serving as a disincentive to farming activities.

ODA demanded immediate action for Chief Sam Ajayi Bello’s safe release and called for collaborative efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

“We urge the community to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Chief Sam Ajayi Bello, and we fervently pray for his safe return,” he added.

Confirming the incident, the Police spokesperson, SP William Aya said the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye has drafted the tactical command to the area with a view to rescue the victim and bring the perpetrators to book.
