The Okun Development Association (ODA) has vehemently condemned the horrific murder of three security officers and 3 vigilantes in Ofili near Egbe, in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

On Wednesday morning, bandits launched a deadly ambush on a police checkpoint along the Egbe-Okunran-Pategi road, killing the officers in cold blood.

According to eyewitnesses, the officers were ambushed while arriving at their duty post. The bandits opened fire on their vehicle, instantly killing two officers. A third officer later succumbed to injuries at the E-unit of ECWA Hospital in Egbe.

The attack has been described as barbaric and heartless, sending shockwaves throughout the community.

The ODA President General, Ambassador Akenson Rotimi, expressed profound shock and sadness over the incident, assuring families of the bereaved that the Okun people share in their grief.

The Association called for a thorough investigation into the incident and urged security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice. The association also pledged to support the families of the deceased officers during this difficult time.

The tragic incident has left the community in mourning, with ODA calling for increased security measures to prevent such attacks in the future. A thorough investigation is reportedly underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and prevent future occurrences.

National Publicity Secretary of ODA, Dayo Thomas, said Okunland has been experiencing heightened insecurity, with residents living in fear due to frequent attacks, kidnappings, and killings.

“The ODA has been advocating for improved security measures and community-led initiatives to address the challenge. In March 2025, the association organized a security summit in Kabba, which emphasized the need for strategic joint-action approaches to tackle insecurity in the region,” Thomas said.
