Ochanya Ogbanje: Culprits Must Be Brought to Book – Foundation

A non-governmental organisation, Liberal Female Empowerment and Development Foundation (LFEDF) has called on the Federal Government to ensure that justice is done and the culprits behind the complication that resulted in the death of Miss Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje, a 13-yr old girl from Gboko in Benue state are brought to book.
The director General of LFEDF, Her Majesty, Blessing Aisha Ekele made the call in Lokoja while addressing journalists yesterday, saying that the death of Idoma girl, late Achanya who was alleged to have been consistently raped by a father and son and cupped VFF which eventually led to her dead should not be handled with kid gloves by administrators of Justice in this country.
A gender sensitive Ekele, popularly referred to as BAE by her teeming fans, emphasized that justice to late Ochanya, a victim of serial sexual abuse is seen to be justice to millions of female folks across the globe who were victims of gender violence.
She therefore tasked the government and other stakeholders of the administration of justice to do the needful and bring the alleged rapists of late Ochanya to justice, stressing that issue of rape remains a crime against humanity.
She averred that there should be a legal and administrative reforms so as to protect the lives and rights of any child in the country, adding that such a victim of rape in the mould of Ochanya should be allowed free medical treatment on time before  associated complications developed and kill its victim.
 “The nation’s constitution is due to be amended to specifically or specially put a price tag on offender(s) of such a crime as this. That is the only we can  prevent or stem more of such crimes rate in the society of today.  Let us not deceive ourselves, there are many victims of this type of rape that are dying in silence because of lack of fund for  treatment, besides societal stigma”, she said.
Hon. Ekele, who said Liberal Female Empowerment and Development Foundation is mainly to empower and develop female folks to be self reliant, urged all the women groups and NGOs to stand their ground until justice is seen to have been done, or the guilty made to  face the music of their dastardly act.
While she noted that her NGO is presently “taking care of about 120 children school fees, training some on skills,  learning trades and others.”
Ekele said her NGO is ready to collaborate with an individual or groups, organisations as well as state or federal ministries  to fight the scourge of gender related issues rampaging the society.
It could be recalled that late Miss Elizabeth Ochanya Ogbanje, a 13-year-old pupil of Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Gboko, Benue State met her untimely death when she was allegedly raped serially by Mr Andrew Ogboja, 51, a lecturer in the Department of Catering and Hotel Management of Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, and his son, Victor Inalegwu Ogboja, said to be a final year student of Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi recently.
