The Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State chapter, Comrade Oladele John Nihi has condemned the violence that led to the murder of a Kogi youth, Saka Seidu, during a protest in Lokoja yesterday.
The Chairman who visited the scene of the incident on a fact finding mission lamented on the fact that politicians have taken their animosity to the level of wasting precious lives for selfish ambition.
In a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Nihi, Abdulkerim Haruna, he expressed his surprise that anyone will choose to hold a “political” protest in an academic environment where we have numerous students going about their academic activities, knowing fully that it would cause distraction to the students and could even lead to stampede and possibly cause injury to the students should anything go wrong; just like it happened yesterday where an innocent life was lost.
“The life of a youth has been lost, this is one too many that politicians have chosen to sacrifice on their quest for self-aggrandizement. Therefore, we call on the Inspector General of Police and the Director, State Security Service to launch a full scale investigation into this matter and ensure that those responsible for this crime against Kogi youths, no matter how highly placed, are brought to justice,” he said.
The Chairman used this medium to call on the youths to desist from making themselves willing tools in the hands of self-seeking politicians to cause mayhem in the state. We should be seen to be advocates of good governance and quality representation, and not allow ourselves to be used as instruments for political vendetta.
He urged the youths of Kogi State not to take laws into their hands as formal complaints had been made to the relevant authorities for prompt action. Justice must be done on this matter.
