Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) has commended the effort of the state government towards animal welfare and by extension, public health of Kogi state citizens.

The Chairman, Kogi state chapter of NVMA, Dr Tolu Omotugba, gave the commendation in a statement issued in Lokoja on Wednesday.

Kogi state government, on Monday, commenced a statewide vaccination exercise against Anthrax disease in large animals and small ruminants in some Fulani settlements in Lokoja.

The exercise, fully funded by Livestock Productivity and Resilience Enhancement Project (L-PRES), has engaged all the veterinary doctors within the state to move round the 21 LGAs to administer the vaccine and also ensure that livestock in Kogi state are generally protected against such zoonotic diseases like Anthrax.

In the statement, Dr. Omotugba expressed satisfaction with the work done so far by the veterinary officers on the field.

He promised the readiness of his members to complete the exercise in record time while also appealing to the state government not to renege in its effort to combat animal diseases, especially the ones with public health concerns.
